Job Title: L&D Coordinator (Focus on Apprenticeships)
Hours: Full Time, Monday to Thursday, 9.30am – 5.30pm (Friday 9.30am – 4.30pm)
Salary: £24,000.00 per annum
Location: Head Office (TA1 2PX, Taunton) also with regular travel to other homes within Somerset.

Commute: All candidates MUST be able to drive, with access to their own transport and ability to obtain Business Insurance (Mileage will be supported)

About the Role:

As our L&D Coordinator you will Support the commissioning and provision of high-quality apprentice programmes designed to cultivate personal development growth, enhance, protect, and develop the Somerset Care Group workforce and enable individuals, and the group to achieve their full potential.

Day to day responsibilities:

  • Contribute towards the strategic learning and development plans, which align to and support achieving the overall Company Strategic Objectives
  • Efficiently manage the administration and coordination of apprenticeship placements, regarding allocations, applications, and funding, including levy funding
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with training providers ensuring compliance with funding rules, assessment criteria and legal frameworks
  • Manage the Government Digital Apprenticeship Service portal inputting applicant data, that enables Somerset Care to appropriately draw down funding each month
  • Maintain accurate records of all training or learning activities, in accordance with programme schedules, criteria, funding requirements and strict data protection rules
  • Ensure results, certificates or qualifications are awarded in a timely way
  • Manage all associated costs in accordance with the L&D budget, monitoring and controlling expenses and approving payment requests from apprenticeship providers
  • Ensure that apprenticeship progress is tracked and evaluated, recording and sharing key MI, and ensuring an audit trail of learning history is readily available
  • Co-ordinate all placements, ensuring each cohort gains the relevant experience and skills needed to successfully complete the programme
  • Work with managers to understand learning needs across the Group, identifying appropriate opportunities for levy-funded activity
  • Promote apprenticeship activity to all staff and publicise new opportunities throughout Somerset Care. Provide quality guidance and support across the Group, in relation to the apprenticeship programme, acting as Somerset Care’s apprentice coach
  • Provide quality evaluations regarding the development, progression and learning outcomes of each cohort, making quality recommendations to the L&D Manager
  • Encourage learner participation by acting as a mentor to those on the programme
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with Apprentices and their managers and with learning providers
  • Support the attraction and selection associated with onboarding new cohorts, process, and shortlist applications, manage eligibility, and communicate selection outcomes
  • Maintain, develop, and demonstrate a sound working knowledge of apprenticeship policy, procedures, systems, and ongoing developments
  • Coordinate the logistics of apprenticeship events including ensuring venues are agreed, fit for purpose, set up appropriately and cost effective
  • Undertake Apprenticeship programme inductions to welcome new joiners
  • Proactively research and recommend new training providers, technology or materials that can drive innovation and create new learning opportunities fit for now and the future
  • Work collaboratively with L&D colleagues, internal stakeholders and external L&D providers, harnessing L&D networks to remain abreast of market changes
  • Ensure that all training planned and delivered across the Group is in line with the requirements of the Quality Audit process, legislation, and relevant best practice.
  • Drive continuous improvement and best practice, influencing policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of training, development, and service to all colleagues
  • Support placement activity with schools and colleges, work experience initiatives and develop external relationships with key stakeholders to ensure a great experience for all placements
  • Continuous personal development, maintaining own occupational & professional competence and/or certifications with professional training bodies

What you will need:

  • Advanced planning, organisation, and time management skills, with excellent attention to detail, strong initiative and able to manage multiple priorities
  • L&D related qualification or equivalent is preferable (CIPD or CTP)
  • Highly resilient, resourceful, adaptable, and reliable. Adept at using technology
  • Self-motivated to work independently yet thrives working collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Confident evaluating and interpreting data, producing reports. Analytical in approach
  • Excellent people, engagement, and interpersonal skills, can naturally build rapport
  • Advanced communication skills verbal and written, able to convey messages with clarity
  • Excellent problem solver, offers pragmatic solutions and able to influence actions
  • Embraces and encourages change, innovation, technology, and new ideas
